The body of a missing Superior man was recovered Sunday afternoon about a mile south of the mouth of the Middle River, which empties into Lake Superior.
Related contentAnthony Puckett Sr. was last seen April 20 at a town of Lakeside residence near Wisconsin Highway 13 and the Middle River, according to a release from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. He was reported missing Monday, April 22.
An extensive ground, air and water search ensued over the next several days. Puckett's body was located at approximately 4:15 p.m. Sunday by members of the Lakeside Volunteer Fire Department who were searching the river banks on kayaks after water levels had receded.
Puckett was found was about 2 miles downstream from the area he was last seen.
The incident remains under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Douglas County Medical Examiner's Office.
Agencies participating in the search include the St. Louis County Sheriff's Rescue Squad, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Lakeside, Maple, Poplar and Lake Nebagamon volunteer fire departments.
